For extensive loss of tooth structure due to injury or due to decay or after performing a pulpotomy procedure, we may recommend placement of crowns to avoid early loss of baby teeth.

Tooth colored crowns will be placed in the front for cosmetic reasons and stainless steel crowns are recommended for the molars (back teeth) to better withstand the biting forces.

Crowns can be performed in the same sitting following the pulpotomy and doesn’t usually require the child to come back for a second visit.
A crowned tooth should be brushed and flossed just like a natural tooth.

The crowned teeth typically fall off when the permanent teeth are ready to erupt into place.
