This treatment is recommended when a tooth has a deep cavity ie: – the decay is close to the pulp and when the patient doesn’t have any spontaneous or night pain/ swelling /infection.

When the decay reaches close to the pulp, the pulp becomes inflamed and results in tooth pain in response to eating/ice.

In order to avoid a pulpotomy and to preserve the vitality of the tooth, a bit of decay close to the pulp is left and a sedative dressing is placed. The tooth is then restored with a tooth colored restorative material or a crown
